The Brave Buddies Mentorship Program
We support young immigrant women (ages 16-24) in New York City by providing free legal and holistic services, mentorship, and community events including art class, career coaching, meditation, dance, finance workshops and more.
In March 2020, we launched our Brave Buddies Mentorship Program and we are now working with dozens of dedicated mentors & mentees. The goal of the program is to help our members explore career paths, build confidence, and spark joy through creating warm, supportive relationships with positive role models.

The Role of Mentors
"Helping others is one of the purest forms of love. Mentoring students is a passion of mine because of how much my mentors did for me. I know the importance of mentorship to build confidence and grow as a person and human being. I love the experience." Danney Salvatierra, mentor at the Brave House
Mentor Spotlight
Meet Danney ("The Law School Pro")
Danney has spent the past 6 months helping review her mentee's law school applications and discussing her mentee's career goals and aspirations. As a legal advocate and an immigrant herself, Danney has provided invaluable advice and guidance to her mentee. Danney shared with us, "I arrived in this country when I was 13 from Peru. I didn't know how the system worked nor did my family. We didn't know English either so we had to figure things out on our own or with the help of a lot of different people. During college, I was fortunate to have had the most incredible mentors to guide me and help me achieve my goals."
Meet Kevin ("The Coding Champ")
For the past 5 months, Kevin has been connecting with his mentee while teaching her how to code. For Kevin, the most rewarding part of being a mentor is the genuine gratitude they feel for each other and seeing when his lessons just "click." Kevin states, "I hope to be a source of positivity and light in her life. By helping teach her how to code, I hope to empower her to find a job that is challenging, fulfilling, and that pays well." When we asked his mentee Maria about her mentorship experience, she shared, ""I, like a butterfly, flew from one place to another. I was lost, until I met other wonderful people like me, who helped me fly again."
Meet Helen ("The Self Care All-Star")
Helen and her mentee focus their conversations on balancing mental health with school. Helen helps her mentee co-create a self-care plan while also prioritizing her undergraduate studies, which has been so crucial especially during remote learning. Helen shared that "understanding my mentee and putting myself in her shoes helps me challenge myself and look at her goals and fears through a new lens. It's rewarding to just learn from our youth and to normalize fears without judging them."
