Thanksgiving 2020

November 27, 2020
We gathered this weekend to honor that Thanksgiving is a complex day for many people, especially indigenous and immigrant communities. It can be a painful reminder for many of our members that they are not with their families for the holidays. It also highlights a legacy of colonialism in the United States and the implications this has for today - a truth we cannot ignore as organizations & individuals who strive for collective liberation and dismantling systems of oppression.

Because of this, our community decided to celebrate the spirit & gratitude of Thanksgiving rather than its history. We felt it was important to create a space for our community to connect on this day, while also respecting the CDC guidelines for safety. This weekend we hosted an outdoor event with masks where we shared hot cocoa, desserts, laughs, and "Brave Packs" - social-emotional toolkits to help our members navigate the cold & challenging months ahead. Thank you to all our members who came by, it was so amazing to see everyone! A major shout out to our volunteer Riya & other supporters for helping to make this possible.
