Our Goal.
Our Youth Leadership Board (YLB) consists of ten members who meet monthly with our Executive Director and a trauma-informed coach to participate in leadership training, and provide feedback about our services, receiving a stipend to honor them for their time and energy. This program serves as a pathway to leadership within the organization. Our Youth Leaders, all of whom are immigrants, and many of whom have been targeted by the criminal justice and immigration systems, are valuable decision makers within our organization.
After two terms on the YLB, Youth Leaders can join our Advisory Board and be considered for part-time employment - a path that 3 Youth Leaders have traveled so far. Ultimately, the Youth Leadership Board is a pipeline to leadership within our organization and within their communities at large. Our hope is that one day they will become members of the Board of Directors, employees of the Brave House or even a future Executive Director.

Our Why.
We believe that our community knows best what services and resources are most helpful for their thriving and healing. Through facilitation and open dialogue, our Youth Leaders can verbally share feedback on the entire range of our programs and dive deeper into specific services. By actively including members in every step of our process we will not just provide our members with more responsive services, but also allow them to take charge of their own healing.

Our Impact.
As part of their six-month term in our Youth Leadership Board, members take part in development training, including topics such as: Leadership and Public Speaking, Time Management and Goal Setting skills, and How to Have Difficult Conversations. Youth Leaders are also given the opportunity to build deep relationships with fellow YLB members. An exciting display of maturing leadership skills is that our longest-serving Youth Leaders have begun to facilitate and lead some of our workshops.
